PROGRESSIVE PARTY "BATTLE FLAG"
CIRCA 1912 cotton, 15"x15", red and boneRoosevelt left the White House in 1908 after serving two terms as president. His successor was fellow Republican William Howard Taft. By 1912, however, Roosevelt was a part of the Republican Party's progressive faction, and ran against Taft. The Progressive Party was soon nicknamed the "Bull Moose" Party, after one of Roosevelt's favorite sayings - "I am as strong as a bull moose."
Bandannas were widely used as campaign items during Roosevelt's time. They were inexpensive, and supporters often wore them to display their support for candidates. This one is from Roosevelt's 1912 campaign on the Progressive ticket.
