On Sept. 14, 1901, just hours after the assassination of President William McKinley,

Theodore Roosevelt took the oath of office to become the 26th president of the United States. The oath was given in the home of his friends, Ansley and Mary Wilcox.

Today, visitors can take a guided tour of the home, including a 12-minute slide presentation centering on events that occurred within the days of Roosevelt's inauguration, the Wilcox family and the turn of the century Victorian era. The site is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., year round. From April to December the site is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., and from January through March it is open on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

Both self-guided and guided walking tours are available. Various educational activities for groups of all ages are available upon reservation. Yearly events include a lecture series in February, March and April; an Easter program for children; summer Victorian camp; a Teddy Bear Picnic for children; an inauguration anniversary luncheon; and a Victorian Christmas celebration.

House tour fees are $3 for adults and $1.50 for children, with family rates available. Walking tours are $5 per person. Special group prices are available.
