Wave Hill, a non-profit cultural institution located on 28 acres in the northwest Bronx, is dedicated to exploring the interaction between human beings and the natural environment. Programs in both the arts and sciences are designed to foster public understanding of and appreciation for this complementary relationship.

Wave Hill maintains award-winning gardens and greenhouses; manages an urban woodland; provides environmental education of city children, teachers and more than 100,000 visitors annually; offers arts activities for children that strengthen environmental awareness; conducts projects in landscape history and design; and presents exhibitions, readings, concerts, lectures and workshops that examine the aesthetic response to nature.

Wave Hill is operated by an independent, non-profit cultural organization; the City of New York owns the buildings and grounds. With assistance from Bronx representatives in the City Council and state Legislature and the Bronx Borough president, Wave Hill's operation is supported with public funds through the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts and the Natural Heritage Trust. Federal funds are provided through the National Endowment for the Arts. Foundations, corporations and individuals contribute vital additional support.
