WILCOX HOUSE POSTCARD

On Sept. 6, 1901, President McKinley was shot while attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo. Vice President Roosevelt cut short a family vacation in the Adirondacks to be at the president's side. An undetected infection took McKinley's life one week later and, on Sept. 14, 1901, Theodore Roosevelt was sworn in as the 26th president of the United States.

This postcard shows the Wilcox House in Buffalo, where Roosevelt's inauguration took place. The house was also the site of McKinley's death.
